Description | Topics may include introductory treatments of sets, logic, number systems, number theory, relations, functions, probability and statistics. Appropriate applications are included. | ||||||||||
Prerequisites | Successful completion of or concurrent enrollment in DMTH 0132; or SAT math score of 500 or higher, or ACT math score of 19 or higher, or TSI math score of 350 or higher, or any other applicable exemption that qualifies the student for the class. | ||||||||||
Learning Outcomes |
Upon successful completion of this course, students will: 1. Apply the language and notation of sets. 2. Determine the validity of an argument or statement and provide mathematical evidence. 3. Solve problems in mathematics of finance. 4. Demonstrate fundamental probability/counting techniques and apply those techniques to solve problems. 5. Interpret and analyze various representations of data. 6. Demonstrate the ability to choose and analyze mathematical models to solve problems from real-world settings, including, but not limited to, personal finance, health literacy, and civic engagement. |

Instructor Policies |
Blackboard: All relevant information about this course will be communicated to you using your LSCPA email and via Blackboard. You should check your email daily, and regularly log in to Blackboard to check for any announcements you may have missed. Please refer to Blackboard (or the syllabus) before emailing me with any non-math related questions, as most of the answers to such queries are usually located therein. Homework: All homework will be done online using MyMathLab, accessed through Blackboard. Please log in to Blackboard for instructions on how to set up your account. You do need to log in and get started as soon as possible. Homework assignments for each unit of material will be due the week of their respective unit exams. Your homework average will count as 20% of your final grade. Unit Exams: There will be a total of 3 unit exams, occurring at regular intervals throughout the semester. Exams will be administered on MyMathLab, accessed through Blackboard. The dates for the exams are given on the course schedule located on Blackboard. There will be no extensions or make-up exams, for any reason whatsoever. If you are unable to take an exam on the date shown on the schedule, you must let me know beforehand so that we can make other arrangements. Each exam grade will count as 15% of your final grade. Final Exam: There will be a comprehensive final exam at the end of the semester. It will cover material from the entire course and will count as 15% of your final grade. Quizzes: There will be weekly quizzes available to accompany each unit of material. The purpose of these quizzes is to encourage you to stay on pace and to help you focus for the exams. Each quiz will be due by the end of the day on Sundays, and solutions will be posted the following week. Your quiz score average will count as 20% of your final grade. |

Attendance Policy | Since this is an online course and we will not be meeting in person, the rate and pace of attendance is left somewhat up to the student. It is the sole responsibility of the student to make sure that they are current and up to date in the material and to participate in all posted assignments and activities, and they are expected to do so out of their own desire to learn and succeed. The student's online participation will be observed to an extent, and for any borderline cases of assigning final grades, this record will be taken into consideration. | ||||||||||
